After Earth is the latest movie pair up of Jaden and Will Smith.  Jaden is shaping up to be a true chip off the ol’ block when it comes to acting chops.

But Jaden and Will both have to compete with the effects in this beautifully crafted movie. The creatures, landscape, technology and space scenes all hold their own as supporting acts.  And to complete this digital masterpiece, the website for After Earth is sublime. The scroll changes scenes, backgrounds, pages and creates character moves similar to the Iron Man 3 website. And all without Flash.  Techsnoop predicts that this trend will continue. While Flash will have a place in some games and apps, as a web animation, it is losing steam quickly.

While this level of interactivity could be distracting on most business sites, for the movie industry this is becoming the gold standard. Movie productions are followed closely in social media and websites have to go up far in advance of the actual opening. Adding interactive and animated elements keeps visitors coming back for updates and generates buzz.

It also provides a continuous marketing presence that the public promotes for the studio. A true win for the movie when it is a good one like After Earth.

Techsnoop strikes again with awesome tools for the Graphic Designer.  It is impossible to be successful in this field without continuous learning.  Finding the right resources to quickly learn new tips and tricks is essential.  Here are some great resources and best of all, they are FREE.

My favorite site these days is Video Copilot.  Andrew Kramer rocks as the tutorial King.  While his tutorials assume that you have some idea of the programs, it is possible for even beginners to follow along by using pause and replay.

If you need an e-commerce solution, try out the free, open source Open Cart.  This software takes a little practice to install and configure, but the administration is worth the setup.  Flash is not dead, but who wants to spend a lot of time on a technology that is being phased out?  Try Giotto for Flash effects without coding or pain.

Hope these help you out.  For more freebies, check my site.

AlertAlert! A new virus is out which can circumvent your anti-virus program.  It comes from phishing websites urls and can take over your computer.  If you get a message to update Adobe Flash player and cannot shut it down, you have been infected.  Another symptom is clicking on links on websites and being given a download message instead of going to the link action.  Also, if you cannot open folders on your hard drive, you may be infected.  I was infected visiting a site I have gone to in the past.  It was not infected then, but is now a victim of phishing.  This can happen to anyone.

If you suspect you have this virus, seek help immediately.  It can be cleaned off by going to a system restore point that is known to be clear of the virus.  If you are not setting system restore points and backing up your files on a regular basis, DO IT NOW.

FYI, I have a superior anti-virus program which is updated twice a day.  My computer is scanned every day.  When I scanned my computer, the program did not recognize the virus so it may be a keylogger.  If you are infected, change all of your passwords, uninstall Flash player and Java and reinstall them from the developer sites.  I have taken all of these steps and it was a pain.  But it would have been much worse if I had not had my files backed up and my system restore points.  Have a happy Holiday season and enjoy shopping online safely.
